The Old School Radio Hour
Frequently Asked Questions a.k.a FAQ
1. What is The Old School Radio Hour?
The Old School Radio Hour is a 2-hour program that exposes
Hip-Hop's early eras (true and old school) through the use of classic
singles (1979-1987), true school breakbeats that helped build the
culture in its heyday, rare recordings of live jams, interviews with
legends, pioneers, and innovators who helped create a culture.
2. When and what time does the show air?
The show airs on G-Town Radio.com broadcasting live every Friday
night from 7pm to 9pm EST.
3. When did the show start?
Please refer the history page.
4. I'd like to have one of your guests appear on a track that I
recorded. How is that possible?
Well to us,your chances are slim to none. If you want that to
happen, you'd have to contact them yourself and we will not release
any contact information regarding our guests without their consent.
5. I'm a dj and i'd like to spin on your show. How do I submit my tape?
Send us an email with your info and we'll take it from there.
6. When are you going to play some old school 2PAC,Biggie or some
old school Jay-Z?
Never. 1987 is our cut-off year for material.
Now the only time we will play anything recent is if an old school hip
hop legend has released a new single.
If you listened to any of the early shows,we did play some post-1987
material as were still experimenting and found out what works and
what doesn't work.
7. Why does the classic live shows sound so bad in quality?
Because back then, these live parties were recorded on the early
boomboxes(just like the ones you see in the background) and they
did not have that much of a tight quality sound for recording.
Plus it is also due to the age of the source material as tapes do
deteriorate after a period of years.
8. Where may one find the singles that you play on the show?
If you're looking for vinyl, then you can pretty much go to any second
hand Mom-N-Pop shop that sells used vinyl or any specialty record
shops in your area.
Most places nowadays carry the material on reissued or repressed
vinyl(meaning NOT the originals, for you hard core collectors).
And also do some searching at thrift stores, antique shops, yard
sales,a family member's old record collection,record
conventions,eBay, and more.
9. Is there a way to call you on the air?
Yes. Tune in and find out.
10. Can we request a song on the air?
On-air requests are not accepted because the singles that we play on
each show are pre-planned before broadcast.
However,if there is a certain old school hip hop single that you want
to hear, please let us know a week in advance and we will do our
best to honor your request.
11. I'm a new artist and I want to get interviewed on your show. How
can I do that?
Umm....look at the title of the show and you'll have your answer.
12. I heard about your big old school party in Philly. How was it?
You should've been there.
13. There's a specific old school artist I want you to interview. How
do I do that?
If there is any old school hip hop pioneer/legend that you want
interviewed on the show, let us know and we'll do our best to track
them down and get the interview.
14. Have you ever been turned down for interviews?
Yes. Some of the legends choose not to be interviewed for some odd
reasons we don't know why, but we do respect their wishes.
15. Will you have any episodes of the show for sale to the public?
No. We are not selling copies of the shows. It is an expensive
process.
16. Where are you broadcasting from?
The G-Town Radio studios in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.
17. I'm a hip hop pioneer and I'd like to be a guest on the show. How
do I do that?
Well first thing's first, let us know who you are and what you
contributed to the emerging culture. We will then do our research on
you to tell whether or not you are truly a hip hop pioneer and not a
LIONEER.
18. What's a "lioneer"?
A "lioneer" is someone who makes false claims that they are a hip
hop pioneer just to be down and get their name out.
To us,these individuals fall into our own category known as
"S.A.Ws",which stands for "Sucka-Ass Wannabes".
19. Will there be any more jams like the one from December 2nd?
Not at this time. We'd love to throw another old school party, but we
want to stay focused on the show and then move on to other projects
connected with the show.
20. I think TG is very hot!
That is NOT a question nor has nothing to do with old school hip hop
and the show but just to make you happy,we'll let TG know that
someone(we're hoping you are a FEMALE)thinks that he is "hot".
21. Who the hell is TG-The Analog Master of Disaster???
Kinda harsh,eh? Well TG-AMD is the creator, producer and host of The
Old School Radio Hour. He represents from
Philadelphia,Pennsylvania, although he grew up in Norristown, PA. He
is a dj, former b-boy(it is still in his heart), beatboxer, MC, and a hip
hop historian who has been fully reppin in the hip hop culture for
over 15 years. He is NOT a legend, a pioneer nor a forefather in hip
hop. Even though he's been doing his thing in the game for a
while,he is a new jack. TG is also an event promoter. He promotes
parties connected with the show such as our 1st anniversary
throwdown that YOU should've went to.
All in all,he is a cool, straightforward, and down to earth brother who
loves the old school hip hop culture and has pretty much dedicated
his life to showing mad love and respect to the pioneers and legends
of the game.
